About this book
In 2014, Rick Cole, the head of a large church in Northern California, spent two weeks living on the streets of Sacramento to help raise money for a program serving people experiencing homelessness. The experience reshaped the course of his life.
Written in the later stretch of a worldwide pandemic, the book is Rev. Rick Cole of Capital Christian Center's account of those two weeks, along with his reflections on how he has changed since and what he hopes for the Church. He addresses homelessness, race relations, and the work of embracing a community marked by brokenness.
Cole writes candidly and directly, examining his own assumptions as he goes. Some of his points may seem obvious, but he argues that many readers, especially now, still need to hear them.
