Indonesian Table
About This Book
Indonesia spans more than 17,000 islands and is historically known as the Spice Islands, where nutmeg, mace and cloves run through much of its cooking. In this cookbook, award-winning author Petty Pandean-Elliott traces her Indonesian roots and the food that shaped them.
Alongside the recipes, she recalls cooking with her grandmother in Manado as a child and describes the journeys she later made across the archipelago. Each dish comes with the personal history and inspiration behind it, so the recipes read as part memoir.
The 150 recipes include Indonesian staples such as fiery chile sambal, grilled chicken satay, nasi goreng and beef rendang. Regional favourites are also well represented, from fragrant coconut curries and laksa noodle soups to hearty soto and traditional desserts.
The recipes have been adapted for home kitchens, using readily available ingredients and straightforward methods. An opening section introduces Indonesian food culture, and photographs of the dishes and everyday local life appear throughout.
