Into Darkness

Into Darkness is the fifth volume in Terry Goodkind's serial The Children of D'Hara, running 688 pages. Richard Rahl faces an apocalyptic danger that forces him into the unknown. A rift has split the world of the living, and a passage has opened into the realm of the dead. A threat calling herself Fuer Grissa Ost Drauka, the Bringer of Death, has sworn to hunt down a particular woman, and a golden goddess with an endless appetite is part of the menace.

The series picks up directly where Goodkind's Sword of Truth ended with Warheart, so readers return to Richard and Kahlan without a pause. Goodkind began this continuation because readers had long asked what became of the couple after their story's close, and what their children would be like. The Sword of Truth, which opened with Wizard's First Rule in 1994, has been published in 20 languages and has sold more than 26 million copies. The Children of D'Hara is released in new episodes every three months.

Many familiar figures from the earlier books return, including the Mord-Sith. The star shift has altered the world, and new monsters now lurk in the shadows. Goodkind calls the story an arresting, beautiful and sometimes tragic adventure.
