Can you show people who you really are when they have already decided who you are? Five middle schoolers end up at the same cafeteria table after a school requirement sends them to complete community service hours together. George is the sharp, bookish one. Sara prefers to be left alone. Dayara has a tough reputation, Nico comes from a wealthy family, and Miguel is known for his athletic talent.

Each of them is certain they have nothing in common with the others. Still, many of their classmates lump all five together as simply Spanish-speaking kids. Then someone arrives who truly needs their help, and each student must decide whether to reveal private secrets in order to assist, or to keep blending into the background, which may feel like the only way to get through middle school.
