Iraq

Written in the years after the Gulf War, this study looks at how secure Iraq is and at the Western approach to the country at that time. Its central focus is the effects of sanctions across three areas: politics, the economy, and security. The author also considers what role Iraq might play in the future as a petroleum explorer.

The book scrutinizes the American strategy of "dual containment," which aimed to restrain both Iraq and Iran at once. It closes by weighing the policy options available for dealing with Iraq in the years ahead.
