Grant Foster plans every detail of his work and gives it his full attention, habits his younger sister calls neurotic. Now a chance to become Vice President of Marketing is within reach, and he intends to earn it. To get there, he needs the help of Celeste Hightower, a coworker who is as gifted as she is distracting.

Celeste has built her career through relentless effort and cannot afford to stumble. She has also quietly admired Grant for four years, so working alongside him feels like one more obstacle to clear. Her fear of failure keeps her from chasing what she truly wants. Grant, meanwhile, avoids office romances, which rarely end well, and he has never been one to bend the rules, least of all when so much is at stake.

Their partnership soon extends beyond the office. Grant needs Celeste's help connecting with his younger siblings, and Celeste needs someone beside her when she faces her estranged father again. As they spend more time together outside work, the line between professional and personal grows harder to see.
