Jazz day

In 1958, Esquire magazine set out to celebrate the American jazz scene with a special issue. Graphic designer Art Kane proposed an unusual plan: gather a number of prominent jazz musicians and photograph them together. He lacked a good camera of his own, could not be sure any musicians would appear, and wanted the shoot to take place in front of a Harlem brownstone.
