Just David

Ten-year-old David has spent his life in the mountains, where music fills his days alongside his father. When his father dies and he is left alone, he must leave that world behind for Hinsdale, a small town whose narrow ways are a far cry from the life he knew. The people who unwillingly open their homes to him soon find that David's uncorrupted kindness is changing them in ways they never expected. Written by Eleanor H. Porter, the novelist best known for Pollyanna, this is a gentle tale of a boy whose goodness reaches everyone he meets.
