Kate in Between

Kate McAllister is twelve, and since her mother left town without her, she has been desperate for a fresh start. When a group of popular girls takes her in, it seems to solve everything, even though it means turning away from Haddie, her best friend since childhood.

The group soon picks Haddie as its next target. Kate goes along with the cruelty and becomes a passive participant in an incident that could have killed Haddie, until she steps in at the last second and saves her. The next day, a cell phone video of the rescue spreads online, and Kate is celebrated as a hero. She knows the truth, though: she was part of the problem. It is only a matter of time before the full video is released and everyone sees what she did.

Kate must confront both herself and the truth. She has to decide who she will be: a liar, a follower, or someone of greater worth.
