Keep Her Safe

Catherine still can't stop herself from checking on her daughter at night, just as she once did when Anya was a newborn, creeping into the nursery to make sure the baby was still breathing. Anya is now eighteen. Unwanted thoughts keep returning to Catherine, and the anxiety they bring keeps her awake.

Anya is about to leave for university, and Catherine should be looking forward to it, but fear has pushed out any pride or hope she might feel. Her life is pressing in from every direction. She is clearing out her late mother's dusty, falling-apart house, visiting her father, whose mind is failing in a care home, and supporting a grieving colleague at work. Each task stirs up more emotional strain, and her behaviour begins to spiral out of control.

Absorbed in her obsessions, Catherine fails to notice the dangers right in front of her. Mother and daughter must face painful truths that have left them both stuck.
