About this book
This illustrated companion accompanies Bill Condon's fall 2004 film, released by Fox Searchlight. Condon, an Academy Award winner known for Gods and Monsters and Chicago, wrote and directed the picture.
The film profiles Alfred Kinsey, the pioneering researcher of human sexuality, with Liam Neeson (Schindler's List) in the title role. It covers six decades, from Kinsey's boyhood in the early 1900s to his death in 1956. His studies of the sexual habits of ordinary Americans shook the country. Having interviewed tens of thousands of people, Kinsey turned the same rigorous scrutiny on his own life and on that of his research team. The team looked mainly outward, yet what its members discovered about themselves may have mattered as much as what they revealed to the nation. The 1948 book Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, which became a bestseller, grew out of this work.
Laura Linney (You Can Count on Me, Love Actually, Mystic River) plays Clara Kinsey, and Chris O'Donnell (Scent of a Woman, Batman & Robin) plays Wardell Pomeroy. The ensemble also includes Peter Sarsgaard, Timothy Hutton, John Lithgow, Oliver Platt and Tim Curry.
The volume presents the complete screenplay, along with a new introduction written exclusively by Condon. It also reproduces extracts from period histories and biographies, and includes film stills, complete cast and crew credits and 150 color photographs.
