Laethanta Sona

This Irish-language edition presents Samuel Beckett's play Happy Days in Irish for the first time, in a translation by Micheál Ó Conghaile, a writer from Connemara. The Irish title, Laethanta Sona, is the play's name in its new language.

The play follows Winnie, a cheerful woman stuck in a mound of earth under a relentless sun, and her husband Willie, who spends much of the play close behind her and mostly silent. Across the two acts she keeps up a steady stream of chatter, filling the hours with routines, small objects and memories.

The volume is illustrated with scenes and characters from the play's first staging in the open air on the Aran Islands in summer 2021.
