Last Word

Harper Jenkins is the newsroom's most skilled celebrity interviewer, able to coax even the most guarded Hollywood names into talking. As Celebrity Editor of a newspaper's weekend glossy, she is confident in her work and well connected across the entertainment world. Her routine is upended when her difficult boss hires Ryan, a talented reporter, as the new Features Editor. The two first met a decade earlier as interns at the same publication, where a brief, intense romance ended with Ryan's betrayal and years of silence.

Now they share a crowded office and cannot agree on anything. Ryan finds Harper's chaotic habits hard to tolerate, and Harper finds his condescension infuriating. They argue over who is writing which story and who is attending which event. Still, as they spend more time side by side, Harper begins to wonder whether she has judged him too harshly, and feelings she thought were long buried start to return. When they are sent together on a press trip abroad, the tension between them reaches a peak.

Set in London and written for readers who enjoyed The Hating Game and Beach Read, the story also unfolds against a newsroom where layoffs are approaching. With her career and her heart both at stake, Harper must work out who will have the final say.
