Letter

Bella is counting down to her wedding to Sidney, the man she plans to marry, and she has imagined her widowed father leading her down the aisle. Her bookish sister Alice will stand beside her as bridesmaid. Their plans are thrown off course when a letter arrives from their fourteen-year-old cousin Millie.

After her parents died in an accident, Millie was sent to live with her aunt and uncle, a strict and unbending couple. In the letter she insists she is being treated cruelly and begs her cousins to come and get her. Bella and Alice travel to discover what is really happening, and the trip leads to some disturbing developments. Millie ends up living with the sisters, arriving with nothing but ill-fitting clothes and a battered suitcase.

Before long, the sisters begin to wonder whether their generosity was a mistake. Is Millie a young girl who simply needs affection and patience, or a troublemaker with spite and mischief on her mind?
