Letter a

Letter A is the first of 18 workbooks in the Learn your ABC's, please series, designed for children aged 5 to 7 who are beginning to read and write English. The book presents 100 of the most common words that begin with the letter A, one word per page. Words grow gradually in length, from three letters up to eleven.

For each word, the child works through a set of activities: joining dots, filling in missing letters, writing the word, reading it aloud six times, finding it in a crossword, tracing its outline, colouring the word, and colouring a picture that illustrates its meaning. A parent or carer should sit with the child, reading aloud the explanation printed at the foot of each page and, after every ten words, supporting a short test. The series uses US English spelling, so some words may differ from local conventions. Once all 100 A words are mastered, the series continues with Letter B.
