Liar's Lullaby

The narrator's men dragged Charlotte in and labeled her a thief, a liar, and a sneak. He had her locked in the cellar under his mansion and meant to be rid of her by sunrise. Then a small girl appeared at his door, alone and frightened, carrying a note that named him as her father, reported her mother's death, and placed her in his care. He suddenly needs someone to look after a child he never knew existed, and the woman in his cellar seems to be the answer.
