Listen!

Charley's body and home life are both marked by hurt. A leg she has only recently broken forces her to push through every step, her father has buried himself in long work weeks that leave little room for anything else, and the photographs her mother took before she died are something Charley avoids looking at.

Everything shifts when she encounters a wild dog who has been mistreated and who, like her, understands suffering. She feels pulled toward him at once and resolves to help him. The question is whether a girl carrying losses of her own can heal an animal whose spirit has been bruised by cruelty and who will not be tamed.
