Lobster
About This Book
Lobster is a new poetry collection by Hollie McNish and a companion to her earlier book Slug. It was written out of both love and hate for the world. People can feel love and hate, amazement and disgust, fun and misery, so McNish asks why we live in a world that keeps telling us to hate, both ourselves and others. The poems look at how we are taught to be repulsed by our own bodies, which let us laugh, sweat and eat toast, among other things. They also look at how we are taught to be ashamed of pleasure and embarrassed by fun. In her distinctive style, McNish considers what we have been taught to hate and whether we might learn to love again.
