Lodge

Interior designer Max Humphrey turns the camera on ten rustic lodges within America's National Park Service system. The photographs show the architecture and interiors as they look now, so the buildings appear fresh rather than through archival images. The collection is meant for seasoned park visitors and first-time travelers alike.

The lobbies take center stage, but the book also covers grand dining rooms, guest rooms, and simple rustic canteens. Alongside the pictures, Humphrey explains each building's history: why it was built, the people behind it, its notable architectural features, and the period furnishings it contains. Yosemite's Ahwahnee and Crater Lake Lodge are among the featured sites.

Scattered throughout the text are bits of pop culture history that add a lighter touch. The book suits design professionals as well as readers who hope to bring an outdoorsy feeling into their own homes.
