About this book
Loopy Limericks is a collection of nonsense verse, rhymes designed to make young readers laugh. Its editor, John Foster, is a poet and teacher who has compiled many poetry anthologies for Oxford University Press, and he is regarded in the book trade and in schools. The collection combines newly written poems with existing ones, and humorous line drawings appear throughout.
The poems are grouped under thirteen themed headings: Animal Crackers, Dotty Dressers, Dreadful Disasters, Ghostly Groans, Musical Madness, Monstrous Moments, Potty People, Ridiculous Romances, School Sillies, Travellers' Tales, Tummy Troubles, Vampire Bites and Last Writes.
The anthology includes work by well-known writers such as Roger McGough, Edward Lear, Michael Palin, Kaye Umansky and Spike Milligan, along with many others. It is the first of four new nonsense collections that mark the return of Collins Children's Books to poetry publishing. Foster's popular Oxford collection Wham Ban Orangutan takes its title from one of his own poems.
