After a cancer diagnosis in 2016, the author asked which single project he would most want to finish if his time were limited. This book is his answer. Framed as a foundation for Christian thought and wisdom, it is written with a hopeful outlook and encourages believers to engage fully with Christology as well as the theology of the Bible.

The author observes that rigid, sharp-edged theology often draws boundaries and shuts people out. In its place, he points to the Word of God, whose everyday Christology, gentle and lived out day by day, invites readers to bring their whole selves, flaws included, before God, themselves, and others.

The book treats 1 Corinthians as the Christological center of the Bible, working alongside Romans as its theological center. Through this pairing, it reveals what God asks of Christians in the practice of Christian love, presenting it in plain yet profound terms.
