Love's Gift

In 1903, Amaranth Beach is a skilled secretary, but her Chinese heritage works against her under the Chinese Exclusion Acts. She was left on a beach as a newborn and grew up in an orphanage, and the threat of deportation hangs over her. Employer after employer turns her away until Mrs. Tildon of Sea Haven, New Jersey, offers her a job.

Soon after she arrives, Amaranth learns that the Tildon household is full of secrets. The father is a reprobate, a brother has long been missing, and an obnoxious maid keeps her place no matter how she behaves. William, the son, worries constantly about what other people will think.

When a string of alarming events begins, Amaranth and William must work out the secrets that threaten to tear the family apart. Amaranth hopes her faith can mend the divisions between them, but a greater danger may be waiting for everyone.
