Lumberjackula

Jack is a middle grade boy whose parents want different things for him. His mother, a lumberjack, hopes he will attend Mighty Log Lumberjack Prep, where he can learn to chop wood and dress in flannel. His father, a vampire, would rather send him to Sorrow's Gloom Vampire School, where students practice turning into bats and sipping blood-orange juice. Jack is part lumberjack and part vampire, but his private wish is to dance.

His hopes take a turn when a new friend, Plenty, tells him about Tip Tap Twinkle Toes Dance Academy. Jack feels that he might finally have found a place where he belongs, yet he worries that telling his family would let them down, so he keeps the secret to himself.

This graphic novel explores how Jack can find the courage to follow his dreams. Along the way, he learns to accept every side of himself, from the sturdiness of a woodsman and the eerie edge of a vampire to the dance moves he has been hiding.
