About this book
Lyrics gathers the words Bryan Ferry wrote for his songs, both as a solo artist and with Roxy Music, into one volume released on the 50th anniversary of the first Roxy Music album. It spans seventeen albums, beginning with the band's 1972 debut, moving through Avalon, and ending with Avonmore from 2014. The author supplies an introduction, and James Truman contributes an essay.
The collection includes the Roxy Music anthems 'Virginia Plain,' 'Do the Strand,' 'Love Is the Drug' and 'The Thrill of It All.' In these songs, reality and fantasy overlap in a shifting mix with the glamour of a film.
The book also contains Ferry's songs about romantic yearning and faded dreams, among them 'Slave to Love,' 'Mother of Pearl' and 'More Than This.' In his preface, Ferry suggests that life's hardest periods often inspire the songs audiences feel most deeply.
