Mad River

A group of ordinary young people, bored and hunting for something to fill their days, cross a line and start killing. Now they are tearing across the back roads of rural Minnesota, leaving victims behind them and treating the whole spree like the best time of their lives.

Virgil Flowers, an investigator with the state's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, is brought in to track them down. The chase does not go the way anyone expects, and it takes a sharp turn once he is on their trail.

Mad River is a Virgil Flowers crime novel by John Sandford, set in small-town Minnesota and built around a pursuit of killers who seem to feel no consequences.
