Raymond Electromatic, a private eye who is also a hired killer and, as far as anyone knows, the last robot on Earth, takes a case from a woman who looks oddly familiar. She wants him to track down a film star who has disappeared. The hunt draws him into a city where celebrity and wealth go hand in hand with concealment, and the trail points toward a sinister scheme.

The novel opens the Ray Electromatic series and mixes hard-boiled detective fiction with science fiction, keeping the mystery at its center.
