Madness & Soil

Police probationer Annie Greaves is drawn into the search for a vulnerable teenager who has vanished from the Isle of Arran. Her inquiry soon narrows to David Devine, a local man, and his withdrawn mother, whose family has a troubling reputation. Annie has already become entangled with David in a way she has kept hidden, and she must decide whose side she is really on. Could that private connection be preventing her from seeing something dark in him?

Arran's striking but isolated landscape forms an eerie backdrop to a story about loneliness, seclusion and those who live at the margins of society. This is the second book in The Grieving Series and returns Annie to another missing-person case. She pursues it in her own distinctive way and will go to considerable lengths to reach the answers she needs, because these cases always feel personal to her.
