On his first day at Hopewell Elementary, Carson Cooper discovers a stain on his pants in a spot that could not be worse. He is hoping to recover before the bell rings, and that is when things start to look up. A note taped under his desk, sticky with watermelon bubble gum, was left by last year's fourth graders. It describes Locker 37, a place said to solve any problem a student might have.

Carson heads to the locker, and it does produce a solution: an eraser. The catch is that it works far too well. Anything it touches three times disappears, and that includes anything at all.
