Magic Realm

Cousins Avie and Rylan, both twelve, have a habit of slipping through time by way of the stories they read. This time they have each landed in a different scene of the same tale, and neither realizes it at first. A young magician pulls Avie back from a near-certain death, and when she learns that Rylan is also inside the story, she discovers he faces a harsh penalty.

Rylan is wrongly charged with a crime and locked in a dungeon, where he begins to lose hope. There he meets the true ruler of the realm, who is being held captive while a wicked impostor, a bully, sits on the throne. Can Avie spare Rylan from the executioner's blade and free the lord so he can reclaim his seat? Could the cousins defeat the usurper and get home safely, or will they be branded a witch and a traitor?

This is the second book in the Storyline Adventure series, written for middle-grade readers. Fans of fantasy time-travel adventures will find magical beings, a cruel bully, and positive role models. The author is Peter B. Dunfield.
