About this book
Set in the 1970s, this novel follows Jane Teller Sidley, who treats lovemaking as both a way out and a path forward. At twenty, Jane is young but already worldly. She has learned to be entirely unembarrassed about her desires, and she has wealth, an upper-class upbringing, a youthful figure, sharp intelligence, and a good deal of sexual experience. She approaches life as someone eager to test the world and see where she fits, and she is willing to let many men test her in return.
Her lovers include a college professor who broadens her intellect and her sensuality, a football player who is happy to let her take the lead, and a restless charmer who turns out to have been the former lover of Jane's mother, a woman known for an insatiable appetite. Each relationship pulls Jane further into a life of physical freedom and emotional confusion.
The novel asks whether Jane can tell the difference between making love and finding love. It is written by Norman Bogner, author of "Seventh Ave." and "The Madonna Complex."
