Marrakech Select

Select Marrakech is a brand-new, full-color guide to this vibrant city, offering authentic experiences, fresh discoveries, and a good dose of local culture, all brought together in an engaging narrative style by a writer who knows the city inside-out.The guide begins with an inspirational In the mood for… section, filled with suggestions covering an enticing array of things to do, places to eat, drink and shop – all grouped by mood. Whether you’re looking for the best spot to watch the sunset, where to eat slow-roast lamb, or the best route round the medina, there are options to suit you.The heart of the guide, The Selection, offers a collection of over 100 inspiring ideas for a memorable stay in Marrakech, with plenty of secret gems and off-beat haunts in the mix. Take a different view of the exciting central square from one of the rooftop terraces; have your fortune told or your hands hennaed by one of the stall holders; take tea in the most magnificent riad in the city; brave a traditional hammam; shop till you drop in the best boutiques in the medina; enjoy a cocktail at Winston Churchill’s favorite bar; get lost in the labyrinthine souks; watch Moroccan crafts being made and learn how to cook a tagine. The selections are organized by neighborhood, with the medina divided into three for ease of reference – central, southern and northern – followed by the new town, Gueliz, then the areas of Hivernage, Menara and Palmeraie; finally we suggest a variety of excursions out of the city, such as to the delightful seaside resort of Essaouira and the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas mountains. So wherever you are and however much time you have, you can dip in and find inspiration, with lots of insider tips, clear and detailed mapping, and a wealth of practical information.Hotels are featured in a separate section, all personally selected by our resident writer. Organized by theme, there’s something to appeal to everyone, whether you are seeking somewhere small and stylish, quirky and full of atmosphere, or utterly luxurious with top-notch views. Finally, the Essentials section incorporates a user-friendly run-down of information on getting around Marrakech and other key practical points, plus thematic and general indexes.
