Math in Action

Math quietly supports much of the modern world, from ordinary daily routines to remarkable feats such as sending machines to explore Mars. This book shows young readers how deeply mathematics shapes their own lives and the progress people have made.

The book offers ten hands-on activities driven by math. Clear, numbered steps and colorful illustrations walk readers through each one. Projects include designing an obstacle course that a Mars rover could navigate and using the length of a shadow to estimate the circumference of Earth.

Alongside the activities, the text explains core concepts from the school math and science curriculum, including physics, angles, and energy.
