Mayor Pete
About This Book
Mayor Pete: The Story of Pete Buttigieg is a picture book biography by Rob Sanders, with illustrations by Levi Hastings. It follows Pete Buttigieg, who became the first openly gay candidate to seek the Democratic nomination for president and the first millennial to pursue the office. Before the country knew him as Mayor Pete, he was a boy growing up in a Rust Belt town. He lived in a two-story house on College Street in South Bend, dreamed of becoming an astronaut, and as a high schooler wondered about a life of public service. Nobody could have guessed who Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg would turn out to be. The book traces his path through victories and defeats, and the changing seasons, as the boy from South Bend grows into a man devoted to helping others. It celebrates an American who dared to be the first to try something and who imagined a better world for everyone. It is part of the Who Did It First? series.
