Medusa

Ava Baldwin has always tried to keep her temper under control, as her mother taught her. Then a know-it-all classmate, Owen King, talks over her once too often. Ava explodes, and Owen freezes and stops responding altogether. He recovers, but her parents promptly send her to her mother's old school, the Accademia del Forte, an international boarding school in Venice.

There Ava and her brother, Jax, learn that the Olympian gods founded the Accademia for the descendants of mythological monsters. Students are taught to manage their emotions and powers so that they can live as well-adjusted members of society.

But the school is not what it seems. When Ava's friend Fia nearly gets expelled for challenging a teacher, Ava suspects the Accademia is hiding something dangerous. She and her new friends set out to find the truth, an adventure that could change how they see history, mythology and themselves, or could cost them their lives.

This fantasy adventure is by Katherine Marsh, a National Book Award finalist.
