Merlin

Merlin, who becomes King Arthur's magician, is one of the strangest figures in legend and literature. He certainly isn't a cartoon-type wizard with a long beard and a pointed hat. Tradition many centuries old portrays him in a mysterious environment of dragons and demons, Celtic enchantments and pre-Celtic megaliths, early Christianity and ancient druidry. Was there only one Merlin, or were there several? Why can he still fascinate writers of science fiction? Those are some of the topics considered here.
