Mestizo

Originally issued in Argentina in 1994, this book follows two overlapping quests. Investigators work to uncover who carried out a killing, while a man who has lost his past struggles to piece together who he is. Both threads unfold across four generations of a Jewish family, whose lives run through nearly a century of upheaval: the First World War, the revolutions in Russia and Cuba, the founding of Israel, and Argentina's military dictatorship. At its heart is the question of identity, whether personal, cultural, or historical, and the experience of being seen as an outsider.
