Mexikid

Pedro Martín grew up on tales of his grandfather, a legendary crime fighter who took part in the Mexican Revolution. So when his family announces that Abuelito is coming to live with them, Pedro is not thrilled. His house already holds eight brothers and sisters, and it is crowded enough as it is.

Still, Pedro squeezes into the family Winnebago with everyone else for a long drive to Mexico to fetch his grandfather. Mexikid is Martín's graphic memoir of that journey, told from the point of view of a Mexican American kid in the middle of a loud, loving, chaotic pack of siblings.

The trip turns out to be full of laughs and some real heartache. Somewhere along the road, Pedro gets to know the man behind the stories, and he begins to work out what it means to grow up and to find his own grito. It is a funny, warm family story that young readers are likely to want to share.
