About this book
This edited collection brings several disciplines together to study migration and social inclusion through the lived experiences of migrants and refugees. Its contributors rethink what security means for individuals and communities at a time when legal borders and formal citizenship no longer fully explain how people move and settle.
Although the volume draws most of its case material from Australia, it places that material within the broader experience of the Global North. Examples from Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States run throughout the chapters. Across local, national and transnational settings, the authors examine historical memory, ontological security, transnational communities, civic institutions, and the everyday social ties that form in neighbourhoods. Their work draws on sociology, gender studies, history and political science.
The book is written for students and researchers working on transnationalism, migration policy and international relations.
