Mind Studying Mind
About This Book
Mind Studying Mind by Amogh Swamy is an inquiry into the mind itself. It starts from the idea that the mind shapes experience before we notice it doing so. It selects what we pay attention to, carries the past into the present, turns assumptions into apparent facts, and can make an old fear feel new. Even after we understand a pattern, we may keep living inside it. The book's starting question is what happens when the instrument through which everything is experienced becomes the subject of inquiry. Swamy follows the mind through attention, memory, perception, conditioning, identity and insight, and then turns to the observer who seems to stand apart from it all. Along the way he asks how much of experience simply happens and how much is shaped in advance, whether the mind can see its own movement clearly, and who it is that knows when a person says 'I know.' The book moves from everyday psychological observation toward self-inquiry and Advaita Vedanta. It does not offer a new set of answers to adopt. Instead it asks readers to examine the very instrument they have used all their lives to search for answers, and to look at the mind rather than through it.
