Mirage

Esen, a shapeshifter from an alien species, is back in a dangerous universe in this second Web Shifter's Library novel. Her relationships grow tangled once she is unsure of her own identity, and she cannot transform into the form she needs to save a group of chimeras, newly created beings that combine species she knows. Evan Gooseberry, who tries to assist, learns that he is not wholly Human and starts to doubt whether Esen is who she claims to be.

A deadly contagion has killed the crew of the ship that carried the chimeras and Evan to Botharis. The survivors are confined inside the All Species' Library of Linguistics and Culture along with more than a hundred frustrated alien scholars. Meanwhile, Skalet and Lionel keep searching for the missing Sidereal Pathfinder, the ship belonging to Paul's mother, and the search pulls Skalet into divided loyalties when her own Kraal allies move into the Library.

Paul Ragem, already busy with all of this, also wants to revive an old romance with his first love. Yet Esen is keeping a secret about who is concealed in their greenhouse.
