Mischief Acts

Herne the hunter is a mischief-maker, a spirit of the forest, and the leader of the wild hunt. In Mischief Acts he races through the centuries with his creator in pursuit. As a shapeshifter, he takes on many guises, turning up at candlelit Twelfth Night revels, at the spectacular burning of the Crystal Palace, and at an acid-laced Sixties party. Transgression, debauchery, and enchantment follow wherever he goes.

Over time the forest is squeezed by urban sprawl and gentrification, and the world slides into crisis. Herne has to find a way to survive, or to take his revenge.

The novel is told in a shifting, chameleon-like voice and draws on British folklore, weaving the ancient together with the contemporary. It is a dangerous, sexy, troubling, and savage run through time and space.
