About this book
Mixed Doubles is the third and final middle-grade book in John Feinstein's Benchwarmers series, though it can be read as a standalone. This time the story moves to the tennis season, with friends and teammates Jeff Michaels and Andi Carillo back in the spotlight.
Andi has already shown talent as a soccer prodigy and a basketball star, but tennis is where she excels most. At eleven she is nationally ranked, and she plays the sport just for fun. That changes when agents suddenly start approaching her with offers. Jeff is a talented player too, but he has been moved down to the number-two spot on the team despite an unbeaten record, and he is starting to feel jealous of how far Andi's talent might take her.
The two will need to rely on each other more than ever as they deal with unfamiliar feelings, tough opponents and the pressure of finishing a demanding season on a win. The author is a sportswriter who has written many books on sports.
