Molly Pitcher

Women's contributions to the American Revolution often go unmentioned in history books, and this title turns attention to them through the legend of Molly Pitcher. According to the tale, she travels with her husband to the war, where she carries water to soldiers during battle. After her husband falls, she steps into his place and fires a cannon at the British.

Historians suspect the legend blends together many real stories of women who aided the war effort. Two women often linked to it are Mary Ludwig Hays McCauley and Margaret Corbin. The book offers young readers a lesson in both history and bravery, seen from a perspective they may not have encountered before.
