Monstersona

Sixteen-year-old Riley Grishin has just been uprooted by her parents' divorce, moving from Portland, Oregon to Little Brook, Maine. The small town is home to the headquarters of Titan Technologies, an international science corporation. Friendless in her new home, Riley spends her days running through the woods with her dog Tigger and listening in on her classmates, especially Aspen Montehugh, who is beautiful and very strange.

On the night of the homecoming game, Riley wakes to find the town burning and under attack by a monster she cannot see. As the flames spread, she and Tigger escape in their battered pickup truck. On the road out they find one other survivor, Aspen.

Once they are safe, the news reveals something stranger and more sinister at work: every other Titan Tech laboratory on the East Coast has burst into flames. With all air travel grounded, Riley cannot fly to her father in Seattle, so they agree to meet in Minneapolis. Aspen joins her, hoping to find her aunt. Crossing the country, the two are attacked by monsters and by strange armed men in the dead of night. Riley gradually senses that something is wrong with Aspen, and her feelings for her, along with her own humanity, are put to the test.
