Monstress

Monstress is a debut collection of short stories about Filipino-American life, set both in California and in the Philippines. Its characters look for companionship, struggle with the loneliness of isolation, and find themselves bound, sometimes uncomfortably, to their families.

The stories move between very different places: a California army base, a humid movie theater in Manila, and Hollywood, where glamour hides real danger.

Author Lysley Tenorio has previously received a Pushcart Prize, a Whiting Writer's Award, and a Stegner Fellowship.
