About this book
A flood tears through Moominvalley, and the Moomin family has to find somewhere new to live. Luckily for them, a house drifts by just when they need one. It looks ordinary at first, but one wall is hung with curtains, odd rows of lights run along the walls, and there are other peculiar fittings. The Moomins have landed in a theater.
Things take a stranger turn when Moomintroll and the Snork Maiden vanish. The family begins to suspect that the house holds the key to far more than they ever imagined, and they set out to find the missing pair.
The story is gentle and funny in the way Tove Jansson's work always is, and it turns over ideas about creativity, self-expression and what it means to belong to a community. It is the fifth book in the Moomin series, which follows the calm, whimsical Moomin family and their friends, and it is the only book in which the character Misabel appears. It first came out in 1954, and readers young and old have kept returning to Moominvalley ever since.
This edition is a hardcover relaunch from Drawn & Quarterly with extra material, painted covers, a fold-out map and a reading ribbon.
