Mrs. Dalloway
About This Book
Clarissa Dalloway moves in high society and seems vivacious, welcoming and sociable. Underneath, she is troubled and dissatisfied with her life in post-war Britain. That same quiet disillusionment runs beneath nearly every character in the novel.
The story takes place over a single day in June, as Clarissa prepares for and hosts a party. Her inner thoughts mingle with those of the other central characters, including the war veteran Septimus Warren Smith, in a flowing stream of consciousness. Their lives brush against one another, yet a deep sense of isolation haunts each person.
First published in 1925, Mrs Dalloway is one of Virginia Woolf's best-known novels.
