Three close friends visit a farm, and something there begins to change how they act. Their teacher and her unusual yak companion use rhymes and songs to show them what kind of people they could become, and why gentleness toward others matters.

The story is set in the town of Drost, where a stern old woman is first viewed with suspicion. Eventually the townsfolk invite her to settle among them. She has a special gift for reaching children who ignore their parents, act out at school, or behave badly in general.

Beneath her verses lies one simple wish: that the children she meets grow up to be kind.
