Across a ruined world, mutants hunt down anyone who stands against them, and the living are menaced by a spreading zombie plague. David, Lena and Hue are still reeling from the loss of Rocco, the one who held their small group together and kept them breathing. Adrift and without him, they refuse to surrender and instead take desperate steps to keep going.

When their situation seems hopeless, they discover something that reshapes their plans and gives them a reason to hope again. Just as they set that plan in motion, the undead close in on them. The reason the zombies have singled out this tiny band is still unknown, and the clock is running out. Forced to run, they try to keep one step ahead of the infection, though it may already be too late.

Their only real chance is to cross the water to an island that has been cleared of the plague, but reaching it will be the hard part. David and his companions face a trial that will test them as never before.
