Nanny Needed

Sarah Larsen is stuck in a job with no future, so when she spots a notice on heavy cream cardstock in her building's entrance hall, the address alone suggests a way out. The post seeks a nanny for a family of extraordinary wealth and mentions unusual terms, with confidentiality stressed above everything else.

At the interview, Sarah finds a luxurious penthouse on Manhattan's Upper West Side and a salary that would multiply what she currently earns. The child's mother, glamorous and worldly, seems more like a confidante than an employer. Thrilled to be hired, Sarah signs the nondisclosure agreement without hesitating.

Looking back, the notice was a warning sign. The Birds are peculiar. Why does Mrs. Bird never go out alone, and what happened to the nanny who came before Sarah? Their behavior soon seems to go well beyond the quirks of the very rich, but by then Sarah has little chance of asking for help, and the confidentiality agreement still binds her.
